Summary of report week: USGS is listing 18 events, EMSC is listing 26 events and GFZ Potsdam is listing 23 events. You can view each of these listings below. No active category force storms. Max 9 actively erupting volcanoes over and above the 17 always erupting.
Using converted magnitudes (mb to Mw etc) USGS converts to 70 events and EMSC converts to 74 events. Potsdam events cannot normally be converted as the scale is not known.

Note that by comparison to last weeks chart the right hand scale for total converted quakes has had to change as the total dropped below 4,800 which was the base of the axis last week. Global mag 5 levels have now returned to ‘normal’ after the Japan 9.1 in 2011.

A volcano is only included in the listing if there is significant ash above 1km height (white/steam clouds are not counted) or there is a significant lava flow. Crater incandescence, unless accompanied by the either of the preceding does qualify as an eruption.

A comparison of the actual days when a strom was at category force is shown below. The chart above has the highest category attained applied to the duration of the storm thus for example Sandy was a category 2 and would be shown as category 2 on the chart over 8 days.
